In spring 2008 singer/song-writer Dave Carroll checked in hiss $3,500 Taylor guitar on a set of flights from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Omaha, Nebraska. The guitar case had survived 50 flights in recent years with no problem, thanks to its foamy nylon exterior. But the instruments was damaged on this particular United flight. Carroll claimed that passengers looking our the window at the tarmac actually watched the bag guys mangle the guitar in its case. However, representatives for United Airlines denied responsibility for causing the damage.

After nearly a year of frustration trying to get the airline to reimburse him (he paid $1,200 to fix the broken guitar), Carroll got a bunch of friends together and record a music video in which he sings about what happened:

United, you broke my Taylor guitar …
I should’ve flown on someone else or gone by car
’cause United breaks guitars.

He posted the video on YouTube and it became an overnight sensation. Within days it was viewed almost half a million times, (that makes it a platinum, in a matter of speaking); and United contacted him to make amends.
